Subspecies
Polyplectron bicalcaratum (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Grey Peacock-Pheasant (Polyplectron bicalcaratum) and Hainan Peacock-pheasant (Polyplectron katsumatae) following Chang et al. (2008) and Collar (2009) on the basis of genetic and morphological differences.
bakeri (Linnaeus, 1758) - Hills of north-eastern India and Bhutan, from Sikkim east to Manipur, and maybe on into Burma.
bailyi Lowe, 1925 - Unknown; thought to occur in western Assam or eastern Himalayas.
bicalcaratum (Linnaeus, 1758) - Western and southern Burma east through central-southern China (western Yunnan) to north-western Vietnam and south-east to south-western Thailand (north of Isthmus of Kra).
ghigii Delacour and Jabouille, 1924 - Northern and central Vietnam and central Laos.
katsumatae Rothschild, 1906 - Hainan (southern China). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Hainan Peacock-pheasant (Polyplectron katsumatae).
