Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, plantations, pasturelands. It show a preference for forest clearings and edges. From 100 - 1,150 m.

Comoros (B) (NB).

Grand Comoro (Ngazidja) in the Comoro Islands.

Population
Estimated population is 100 (2010) and fluctuating.

Status EN
Habitat destruction is possibly the main threat. Predation by introduced rats may also be a concern.

Voice
Typical drongo squeaks and sharp clicks. Also a soft 'wit-wit'.

Subspecies
DNA studies indicate that this species is well differentiated, and slightly older than its closest relatives, Fork-tailed Drongo (Dicrurus adsimilis) and Velvet-mantled Drongo (Dicrurus modestus), suggesting that it originates from colonization by an ancient African drongo of an island of the Comoro archipelago much older than Grand Comoro (possibly Moh�li) c. 5 million years ago. Drongos from neighbouring Indian Ocean islands, Mayotte Drongo (Dicrurus waldenii) (Mayotte), Crested Drongo (Dicrurus forficatus) (Madagascar and Anjouan) and Aldabra Drongo (Dicrurus aldabranus) (Aldabra), form a distinct group that separated at about the same period. Proposal that all these, along with Black Drongo (Dicrurus macrocercus), form a superspecies not supported by molecular-genetic studies.
