Contopus caribaeus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Cuban Pewee (Contopus caribaeus), Jamaican Pewee (Contopus pallidus) and Hispaniolan Pewee (Contopus hispaniolensis) following AOU (1998).

Formerly treated as conspecific with Cuban Pewee (Contopus caribaeus) and Hispaniolan Pewee (Contopus hispaniolensis).
