Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Pearly-breasted Cuckoo (Coccyzus euleri). Birds in western North America have been described as subspecies occidentalis, but much overlap in size exists and most birds cannot be distinguished. A claimed record of hybridization with Black-billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus erythropthalmus) refers to a juvenile Yellow-billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus).
