Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Red-capped Flowerpecker (Dicaeum geelvinkianum), Flame-breasted Flowerpecker (Dicaeum erythrothorax), Ashy Flowerpecker (Dicaeum vulneratum), Olive-crowned Flowerpecker (Dicaeum pectorale), Louisiade Flowerpecker (Dicaeum nitidum), Red-banded Flowerpecker (Dicaeum eximium) and Midget Flowerpecker (Dicaeum aeneum).
