Habitat
Primary and little disturbed foothill and lower montane forest. From 300 - 1,400 m.

Indonesia (B).

South-western Sumatra (foothills of Barisan Range).

Population
Estimated population is 50 - 249 (2010) and decreasing.

Status CR
Habiotat destruction through deforestation is the main threat.

Habits
Usually on the ground.

Food
Invertebrates, reptiles and small mammals.

Voice
Repeated low whistles, 'we-ow-we', falling then rising in tone. Also issued in a rising series, 'we-ow-we, we-ow-we, we-ow-we, we-ow-we', each phrase slightly higher than last.

Subspecies
Carpococcyx radiceus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Sunda Ground-Cuckoo (Carpococcyx radiceus) and Sumatran Ground-Cuckoo (Carpococcyx viridis) following Collar and Long (1995).

No subspecies.
