Subspecies
Myiobius barbatus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Sulphur-rumped Flycatcher (Myiobius barbatus) following Stotz et al. (1996) and Sulphur-rumped Flycatcher (Myiobius sulphureipygius) following Stotz et al. (1996) and AOU (1998), contra SACC (2005), pending the outcome of investigation into the taxonomy of this group by SACC.
Sometimes treated as conspecific with Sulphur-rumped Flycatcher (Myiobius sulphureipygius). Subspecies mastacalis possibly a separate species.
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
semiflavus Todd, 1919 - North-central Colombia.
barbatus (J. F. Gmelin, 1789) - South-eastern Colombia, east, southern and south-eastern Venezuela and the Guianas south to northern Peru and north-central Brazil.
amazonicus Todd, 1925 - Eastern Peru and central Brazil.
