Nest
In a hole of a tree, but occasionaly in a hole in a building or wall, sometimes lined with grass.
Subspecies
Eurasian Hoopoe (Upupa epops) and African Hoopoe (Upupa africana) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have been lumped into Upupa epops, but Madagascar Hoopoe (Upupa marginata) has been split from this taxon following Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993).
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Eurasian Hoopoe (Upupa epops).
