Subspecies
No subspecies.
Serinus xanthopygius (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Abyssinian Yellow-rumped Seedeater (Crithagra xanthopygia) and Salvadori's Seedeater (Crithagra xantholaema) following Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993).
Thought to form a superspecies with Southern Yellow-rumped Seedeater (Crithagra atrogularis) and Kenya Yellow-rumped Seedeater (Crithagra reichenowi) and previously considered conspecific with both, but differs morphologically and vocally and not known to interact or associate with Kenya Yellow-rumped Seedeater (Crithagra reichenowi) in areas of range overlap.
