Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest. From 1,000 - 2,400 m.

Range (Guide)

Colombia, Ecuador, Panama.

Eastern Panama (Dari�n) through western Colombia (both slopes of the western Andes) to western Ecuador (south to El Oro and Loja).

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Often separated in genus Philodice, alone, or with Magenta-throated Woodstar (Calliphlox bryantae), sometimes also Bahama Woodstar (Nesophlox evelynae), and less commonly Sparkling-tailed Woodstar (Tilmatura dupontii). Birds from Panama were initially misidentified as Gorgeted Woodstar (Chaetocercus heliodor).

No subspecies.
