Habitat
Humid subtropical and temperate forests dominated by oak and laurel. From 1,750 - 2,050 m, and possibly 1,500 - 2,500 m.

Range (Guide)

Colombia (B) (NB).

Endemic to western slope of eastern Andes of Colombia, where restricted to two areas in departments of Santander and Cundinamarca.

Population
Estimated population is 2,000 - 4,300 (2010) and decreasing.

Status VU
Habitat destruction and degradation through logging, conversion to agriculture and hunting are the main threats.

Fruit, seeds and arthropods.

Voice
A loud, rollicking song, typically heard during early morning.

Subspecies
May be conspecific with Venezuelan Wood-Quail (Odontophorus columbianus), Black-fronted Wood-Quail (Odontophorus atrifrons), Black-breasted Wood-Quail (Odontophorus leucolaemus) and Tacarcuna Wood-Quail (Odontophorus dialeucos).

No subspecies.
