Subspecies
All members of genus form superspecies. Often considered conspecific with Alagoas Curassow (Mitu mitu).
Has hybridized in captivity with several other species of curassow, including Blue-knobbed Curassow (Crax alberti), and some of these hybrids were fertile. Reported to be marginally sympatric with Salvin's Curassow (Mitu salvini) at some localities in Peru.
