Garrulax strepitans (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into White-necked Laughingthrush (Garrulax strepitans) and Cambodian Laughingthrush (Garrulax ferrarius) following Collar (2006).

Often treated as conspecific with Cambodian Laughingthrush (Garrulax ferrarius), but that species is now known to be closer to Black-hooded Laughingthrush (Garrulax milleti).
