Subspecies
Birds from southern China (Sichuan, western Yunnan) described as subspecies dulcivox (which has also been treated as synonym of subspecies davidiana of Brownish-flanked Bush-Warbler (Horornis fortipes)), but type specimen lost. Probably inseparable from intricata. The form described as "Phylloscopus subaffinis arcanus", based on three specimens from western Nepal (in Jan and Apr), is now considered synonymous with nominate subspecies of Aberrant Bush-Warbler (Horornis flavolivaceus).
The following 6 subspecies are recognised:
flavolivacea (Blyth, 1845) - Himalayas from north-central India (Garhwal) east to southern China (south-eastern Xizang).
stresemanni (Koelz, 1954) - Garo and Khasi Hills, in north-eastern India (Meghalaya).
alexanderi (Ripley, 1951) - Hills of extreme north-eastern India (eastern Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram).
weberi (Mayr, 1941) - Chin Hills, in western Myanmar.
intricata (E. J. O. Hartert, 1909) - Northern and eastern Myanmar, southern China (Sichuan east to south-eastern Shanxi and southern Shaanxi, south to western and northern Yunnan); some birds winter south to north-western Thailand.
oblita (Mayr, 1941) - Northern Laos and north-western Vietnam.
