Mountains of east-central New Guinea (Mt Hagen, Mt Giluwe, Tari Gap, and southern Karius Range).

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Archbold's Bowerbird (Archboldia papuensis) and Sanford's Bowerbird (Archboldia sanfordi) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have been lumped into Archboldia papuensis following Frith et al. (1995).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Archbold's Bowerbird (Archboldia papuensis).
