Subspecies
Anorrhinus tickelli (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Tickell's Brown Hornbill (Anorrhinus tickelli) and Austen's Brown Hornbill (Anorrhinus austeni) following Rasmussen and Anderton (2005).
Forms superspecies with Tickell's Brown Hornbill (Anorrhinus tickelli) and are often treated as conspecific, but differ in some plumage details and in presence or absence of sexual dimorphism in bill colour. Birds from Thailand and Indochina sometimes recognized as subspecies indochinensis, but appear inseparable from other populations.
