Habitat
Undergrowth of evergreen forest, including bamboo, often close to streams. From 350 - 2,000 m.

Range (Guide)

Bhutan (B), China (mainland) (B), India (B).

North-eastern India (Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim) through Bhutan to south-eastern Tibet.

Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status VU
Forest degradation and fragmentation as a result of shifting cultivation, timber harvesting and clearance for tea plantations, accidental snaring, are the main threats.

Voice
A repeated loud 'prrreet', followed by series of 'prr prr-er-it' phrases, ascending to a climax.

Distinguished from similar Rufous-throated Partridge (Arborophila rufogularis) by more rufescent crown and head-sides, white gorget and entirely chestnut upper breast.
