Black Saw-wing (Psalidoprocne pristoptera), Shari Sawwing (Psalidoprocne chalybea), Petit's Sawwing (Psalidoprocne petiti), Mangbettu Sawwing (Psalidoprocne mangbettorum), Ethiopian Sawwing (Psalidoprocne oleaginea), Brown Sawwing (Psalidoprocne antinorii), Eastern Sawwing (Psalidoprocne orientalis) and Black Sawwing (Psalidoprocne holomelas) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have been lumped into Psalidoprocne pristoptera following Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Black Saw-wing (Psalidoprocne pristoptera).
