Northern Ivory Coast and eastern Burkina Faso east, discontinuously, to western Sudan.
 
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2011).

Subspecies
Mocking Cliff-Chat (Thamnolaea cinnamomeiventris) and White-crowned Cliff-Chat (Thamnolaea coronata) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have been lumped as cinnamomeiventris and moved from genus Thamnolaea to the genus Myrmecocichla following Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Mocking Cliff-Chat (Thamnolaea cinnamomeiventris).

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

  • cavernicola Bates, 1933   -  Central Mali (Mopti). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Mocking Cliff-Chat (Thamnolaea cinnamomeiventris).
  • bambarae Bates, 1928   -  Southern Mauritania, eastern Senegal and south-western Mali. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Mocking Cliff-Chat (Thamnolaea cinnamomeiventris).
  • coronata Reichenow, 1902   -  West-central. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Mocking Cliff-Chat (Thamnolaea cinnamomeiventris).
