Subspecies
Gampsorhynchus rufulus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into White-hooded Babbler (Gampsorhynchus rufulus) and Collared Babbler (Gampsorhynchus torquatus) following Collar (2006).
Formerly treated as conspecific with White-hooded Babbler (Gampsorhynchus rufulus).
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
torquatus Hume, 1874 - South-eastern and southern Myanmar (including northern Tenasserim), western and northern Thailand, southern China (southern Yunnan), north-western and southern Laos and central and southern Vietnam (central and southern Annam, Cochinchina).
luciae Delacour, 1926 - South-eastern Yunnan (China), north-eastern and central Laos and northern Vietnam (Tonkin, northern Annam).
saturatior Sharpe, 1888 - Extreme southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia.
