Habits
Usually pairs or small groups, Often seen in the canopy or sub-canopy of primary forest.
Voice
Variable, distinctive whistes 'wuyeet wu wi wi wi wi woo' repeated every 3-6 seconds. Also 'wuyeet wu weeit-wu' and other similar calls.

Subspecies
Cutia nipalensis (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Himalayan Cutia (Cutia nipalensis) and Vietnamese Cutia (Cutia legalleni) following Collar (2006).
Formerly treated as conspecific with Himalayan Cutia (Cutia nipalensis). Subspecies hoae known only from male specimens, which are closer to nominate subspecies than to Himalayan Cutia (Cutia nipalensis). If female resembles female of latter, the two species may be better recombined.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
hoae Eames, JC, 2002 - Eastern part of southern Laos and central Vietnam (central Annam).
legalleni Robinson & Kloss, 1919 - Southern Annam, in Vietnam.
