Subspecies
Anas flavirostris (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993; Stotz et al. 1996) has been split into Yellow-billed Teal (Anas flavirostris) and Andean Teal (Anas andium) by SACC (2008).
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Yellow-billed Teal (Anas flavirostris).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
altipetens (Conover, 1941) - Eastern Andes of Colombia to north-western Venezuela. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Yellow-billed Teal (Anas flavirostris).
andium (Sclater & Salvin, 1873) - Colombia, Ecuador. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Yellow-billed Teal (Anas flavirostris).
