Southern Amazonia, south of Amazon, in Brazil (R Madeira and tributaries east to upper R Xingu, south to south-western Mato Grosso) and north-eastern Bolivia.

Hylexetastes perrotii (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Red-billed Woodcreeper (Hylexetastes perrotii) and Uniform Woodcreeper (Hylexetastes uniformis) following Ridgely and Tudor (1994), contra SACC (2005), pending the outcome of investigation into the taxonomy of this form by SACC.
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Red-billed Woodcreeper (Hylexetastes perrotii).
