Stable but threatened by predation of eggs and chicks by rats and nesting adults by feral cats.

Most probably fish and small squid.
Voice
Moans and wails at breeding colonies. Silent at sea.

Nest
At the end of a burrow on well-vegetated ledges at about 1600 m.
Eggs (Guide)
1; white; oval. Incubation: 51 - 54 days; by both sexes.
Young
Fledge in about 85 days.
Subspecies
Until recently, considered conspecific with Soft-plumaged Petrel (Pterodroma mollis) and Fea's Petrel (Pterodroma feae).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Fea's Petrel (Pterodroma feae) which is virtually identical, but slightly larger with longer, thicker bill and longer wings.
