Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From 1,500 - 3,300 m.

Voice
Song, often in chorus, is a varied, musical series of trills, whistles and warbling notes. Alarm call, often in chorus, ia a rapid, dry chattering.

Subspecies
Cinnycerthia peruana (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Peruvian Wren (Cinnycerthia peruana), Sharpe's Wren (Cinnycerthia olivascens) and Sepia-brown / Fulvous Wren (Cinnycerthia fulva) following SACC (2005).

Formerly treated as conspecific with Sharpe's Wren (Cinnycerthia olivascens) and Peruvian Wren (Cinnycerthia peruana).

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

  • fitzpatricki Remsen & Brumfield, 1998   -  Cordillera de Vilcabamba, in central Peru.
  • fulva (P.L. Sclater, 1874)   -  Eastern Andes of Peru (Cuzco).
  • gravesi Remsen & Brumfield, 1998   -  Southern Peru (Puno) south to central Bolivia (Cochabamba).
