Subspecies
Cinnycerthia peruana (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Peruvian Wren (Cinnycerthia peruana), Sharpe's Wren (Cinnycerthia olivascens) and Sepia-brown / Fulvous Wren (Cinnycerthia fulva) following SACC (2005).
Formerly treated as conspecific with Sharpe's Wren (Cinnycerthia olivascens) and Peruvian Wren (Cinnycerthia peruana).
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
fitzpatricki Remsen & Brumfield, 1998 - Cordillera de Vilcabamba, in central Peru.
fulva (P.L. Sclater, 1874) - Eastern Andes of Peru (Cuzco).
gravesi Remsen & Brumfield, 1998 - Southern Peru (Puno) south to central Bolivia (Cochabamba).
