Forms superspecies with Black Swift (Cypseloides niger), White-chested Swift (Cypseloides lemosi) and Rothschild's Swift (Cypseloides rothschildi). Sometimes considered conspecific with Rothschild's Swift (Cypseloides rothschildi), and possibly White-chinned Swift (Cypseloides cryptus).

No subspecies.
