Subspecies
Forms a parapatric species pair with Golden-winged Parakeet (Brotogeris chrysoptera), and these two may form superspecies with Orange-chinned Parakeet (Brotogeris jugularis).

The following 5 subspecies are recognised:

chrysoptera (Linnaeus, 1766) - North-eastern Venezuela Seast through the Guianas to Roraima and Amapa, central-northern Brazil.
tenuifrons Friedmann, 1945 - Upper R Negro, north-western Brazil.
solimoensis Gyldenstolpe, 1941 - Manaus region, north-central Brazil.
tuipara (Gmelin, JF, 1788) - R Tapajós east to Maranh�o, north-central Brazil.
chrysosema Sclater, PL, 1864 - R Madeira south to northern Mato Grosso, western Brazil.
