Northern and north-central Colombia (northern slope of Andes from Cesar south to Córdoba and southern in Magdalena Valley to Caldas) and north-western Venezuela (Zulia, Mérida).

Estimated population is unknown (2013) and decreasing.
Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through clearance for agriculture is the main threat.

Subspecies
Myrmeciza laemosticta has been split into Dull-mantled Antbird (Sipia laemosticta) and Magdalena Antbird (Sipia palliata) following SACC (2011).
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Dull-mantled Antbird (Sipia laemosticta).
