Subspecies
Appears most closely related to genus Illadopsis.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- harterti Grote, 1921 - Central and eastern Cameroon.
- turdinus Hartlaub, 1883 - Extreme southern Sudan, north-eastern DRCongo; one record (probably this race) from eastern Central African Republic.
- upembae Verheyen, 1951 - South-eastern DRCongo, extreme eastern Angola and north-western Zambia.
