Subspecies
May form a superspecies with Greater Short-toed Lark (Calandrella brachydactyla), Red-capped Lark (Calandrella cinerea), Blanford's Lark (Calandrella blanfordi) and Erlanger's Lark (Calandrella erlangeri).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

acutirostris Hume, 1873 - Breeds north-eastern Iran east to southern Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and extreme western China (western Xinjiang). Winters mainly Pakistan and north-western India.
tibetana Brooks, WE, 1880 - Breeds north-eastern Pakistan and north-western India eastern across Tibetan Plateau to central China (southern Gansu, extreme western Ningxia and north-western Sichuan) and south to Nepal and Sikkim. Winters northern Indian Subcontinent.
