Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From 1,200 - 1,900 m.
Vanuatu (B) (NB).
Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu.

Estimated population is 250 - 999 (2010).
Status EN
Predation by introduced cats, dogs and rats, and disease are the main threats.

Habits
Forages in singles and pairs in the understorey of cloud-forest. Rarely recorded more than 6 m above the ground.
Voice
A high, evenly-pitched, whistled 'cheep', frequently repeated.
Nest
In holes, low down in trees.
Subspecies
No subspecies.
Genus name sometimes given as Aplornis.
Similar Species
Rusty-winged Starling (Aplonis zelandica) which has dark iris, dark mask and is greyish with rusty-brown restricted to wings and rump.
