Subspecies
Genus often subsumed in Nectarinia.
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
habessinicus (Ehrenberg, 1828) - North-eastern Sudan, Eritrea and northern and central Ethiopia.
kinneari Bates, 1935 - Western Saudi Arabia (southern Hijaz south to Asir).
hellmayri Neumann, 1904 - Extreme south-western Saudi Arabia, Yemen and south-western Oman. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Arabian Sunbird (Cinnyris hellmayri).
alter Neumann, 1906 - Eastern Ethiopia and northern Somalia.
turkanae van Someren, 1920 - South-eastern Sudan, north-eastern Uganda, Kenya, southern Ethiopia and southern Somalia.
