Habitat
Rocky, pebbly and sandy shorelines, tidepools.

Range (Guide)
Spain (E) (B).

Vagrant to Portugal.

Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and their offshore islets in the Canary Islands (Spain). Vagrant to Portugal.
 
Status EX
Last collected in 1913 and locally reported to have become extinct by the 1940s. Extinction is presumed to have been caused by overharvesting of intertidal invertebrates and disturbance by people. Predation by rats and cats has also been implicated.

Voice
A repeated 'kvirr' or 'kvik-kvikkvik'. A 'peepe-peepe peepe-peepe' uttered in alarm.

Nest
A bare scrape on the ground.

No subspecies.
