Subspecies
Long considered conspecific with Slaty-headed Parakeet (Psittacula himalayana), but they are recorded within 25 km of each other in northern Bengal and south-eastern Bhutan. Other evidence suggests birds are convergent in this region, while the close geographical approach of two more distinct forms may simply reflect migration. Separation as two species remains provisional.
