Introduced to Brunei Darussalam, Fiji (B), Iran [Islamic Republic of] (B) (NB), Japan (B), Kuwait (E), Malaysia, Philippines (E) (B), Portugal (B), Puerto Rico, R�union (B), Singapore, USA.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Genus sometimes subsumed in Estrilda.

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

amandava (Linnaeus, 1758) - Patchily in Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bangladesh.
flavidiventris (Wallace, 1864) - Myanmar, southern China (south-western Yunnan), north-western and central Thailand, and Lesser Sundas (Lombok, Flores, Sumba, Roti, Timor).
punicea (Horsfield, 1821) - South-eastern Thailand, Cambodia, southern Vietnam, Java and Bali.
