Subspecies
Distinctive monotypic genus hypothesized by some as being closest to Pseudocolopteryx.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
libertatis Hellmayr, 1920 - Western Peru (La Libertad south to Lima and northern Ica).
alticola (von Berlepsch & Stolzmann, 1896) - Central and south-eastern Peru (Junín south to Puno), western Bolivia (La Paz, Oruro) and north-western Argentina (Jujuy, Tucumán).
loaensis Philippi Bañados & Johnson, AW, 1946 - Northern Chile (Antofagasta at confluence of R Loa and R San Salvador).
rubrigastra (Vieillot, 1817) - Paraguay, south-eastern Brazil (southern Sío Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul), central and western Chile (Atacama south to Chiloé and Aisén), Argentina (Misiones, and from Santa Fe to Buenos Aires and south to Santa Cruz) and Uruguay.
