Subspecies
Closely related to White-lored Warbler (Myiothlypis conspicillata) and Russet-crowned Warbler (Myiothlypis coronata), and has in the past been considered conspecific with one or both. May be closest to White-lored Warbler (Myiothlypis conspicillata), on basis of similarities in vocalizations and altitudinal range.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
pallidula Wetmore, 1941 - North-eastern Colombia (extreme north-west of Sierra de Perija).
zuliensis (Aveledo & Perez, 1994) - Sierra de Perijá, on Colombia-Venezuela border.
cinereicollis Sclater, 1865 - Eastern Andes of Colombia (Norte de Santander south to Bogotá region), and Andes of western Venezuela (Mérida and Táchira).
