Habitat
Subtropical and tropical Swamp forest. From sea-level - 800 m.

Range (Guide)
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Peru, Venezuela.

Southern Venezuela (Amazonas, and R Caura drainage in Bolí­var), French Guiana (two locations), south-eastern Colombia (Meta, Caquetá), eastern Ecuador (locally Sucumbios south to Pastaza), north-eastern and south-eastern Peru (Loreto, southern Madre de Dios), western and southern Amazonian Brazil (Roraima, Amazonas, Pará south of R Amazon and east to R Tocantins and R Araguaia, Rondônia, northern Mato Grosso) and northern and eastern Bolivia (lower R Beni drainage in Pando and Beni, also extreme north-eastern Santa Cruz).

Subspecies
Close relationship with Spotted Antbird (Hylophylax naevioides) and Spot-backed Antbird (Hylophylax naevius) suggested by morphology, vocalizations and nest architecture. Birds from central of range (R Madeira east to R Xingú) described as subspecies subochraceus, but appear to intergrade with other populations over wide region south of R Amazon.

No subspecies.
