Subspecies
Most closely allied with Orange-crested Flycatcher (Myiophobus phoenicomitra), Unadorned Flycatcher (Myiophobus inornatus) and Roraiman Flycatcher (Myiophobus roraimae).

The following 5 subspecies are recognised:

perijanus Phelps & Phelps Jr, 1957 - Western Venezuela (Sierra de Perij�, also eastern slope of Tam�).
venezuelanus (Hellmayr, 1920) - Northern Venezuela (coastal range south to Andes of T�chira).
caripensis Zimmer, JT & Phelps, 1954 - North-eastern Venezuela.
flavicans (Sclater, 1860) - Mountains of Colombia (all three ranges) south to eastern and western Ecuador and northern Peru (north of R Mara��n).
superciliosus (Taczanowski, 1875) - Central Andes of Peru (south to Cuzco).
