Subtropical and tropical moist shrubland. From sea-level - 600 m.
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela.

Subspecies
Subspecies venezuelana possibly indistinguishable from and synonymous with pallida, but paucity of specimens precludes definitive study.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- venezuelana Zimmer, JT, 1940 - R Orinoco and tributaries in extreme eastern Colombia and central Venezuela.
- hypoleuca Sclater & Salvin, 1866 - South-eastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru, western Amazonian Brazil and northern Bolivia.
- pallida Snethlage, E, 1907 - Lower Amazon and lower R Tapajós and R Tocantins, in east-central Brazil.
