Andes from northern Venezuela south to western and central Bolivia.

Subspecies
Bolivian population sometimes separated as subspecies tertia.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- albitarsis (Bonaparte, 1850) - Andes of Colombia to Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.
- opaca (Peters, JL, 1943) - Central Peru.
- tertia (Todd, 1947) - Bolivia.
