Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, moist savanna. From sea-level - 500 m.
Brazil (B), Ecuador (B), French Guiana (B), Guyana (B), Suriname (B), Venezuela (B).
South-eastern Venezuela (Bolívar) and the Guianas to north-central Brazil (lower Amazon east to Maranhío and Piauí); eastern Ecuador (Napo Valley).

Normally placed in monospecific genus Avocettula , mainly due to remarkable form of bill. Other details of morphology, however, together with behaviour and nest structure, support positioning within Anthracothorax .
