Bianchi's Warbler (Phylloscopus valentini) [XC416220]
by Lars Lachmann from Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve (near 17 Mile M.V. Road), Arunachal Pradesh, China (song)
Formerly treated as conspecific with Green-crowned Warbler (Phylloscopus burkii), which also included Grey-crowned Warbler (Phylloscopus tephrocephalus) and Whistler's Warbler (Phylloscopus whistleri), and the populations recently described as Martens's Warbler (Phylloscopus omeiensis) and Alstrom's Warbler (Phylloscopus soror). All of these, however, exhibit constant differences in morphology, vocalizations and mitochondrial DNA. Name "latouchei" has been erroneously applied to Alstrom's Warbler (Phylloscopus soror).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
valentini (E. Hartert, 1907) - Breeds central China (Shaanxi, southern Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan).
latouchei (Bangs, 1929) - Breeds south-eastern China (Hubei, Fujian, Guangdong) and northern Vietnam.
