Subspecies
Has been placed in genus Seicercus. Forms a superspecies with Uganda Woodland-warbler (Phylloscopus budongoensis). Racial identity of population in mainland Equatorial Guinea uncertain and tentatively included in nominate subspecies.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
camerunensis (Alexander, 1909) - Highlands of south-eastern Nigeria (Obudu and Mambilla Plateaux) and western Cameroon.
herberti (Alexander, 1903) - Bioko I (Fernando Póo) and mainland Equatorial Guinea (Mt Alen).
