Subspecies
May form superspecies or parapatric species trio with Caica Parrot (Pyrilia caica) and Vulturine Parrot (Pyrilia vulturina).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
barrabandi (Kuhl, 1820) - South-western Colombia and southern Venezuela to Brazil north of Amazon (east to R Negro).
aurantiigena (Gyldenstolpe, 1951) - Eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru and northern Bolivia to Brazil south of Amazon (east to R Madeira).
