Population
Estimated population is <50 (2010) and decreasing.
Status CR
Habitat destruction and degradation through clearance for agriculture, timber and charcoal-burning, and hunting, are the main threats.

Subspecies
Affinities unknown. It has been suggested that the single specimen represents a runt individual of Yellow-breasted Fruit-dove (Ramphiculus occipitalis) or is of hybrid origin.
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Black-chinned Fruit-dove (Ramphiculus leclancheri) which is substantially larger, has rusty undertail-coverts, and no wing-bar and eye-ring.
