Habitat

Tawitawi in southern Sulu Is (southern Philippines). An old sight record from Jolo (central Sulu Is) has never been confirmed.

Population
Estimated population is <50 (2010) and decreasing.
Status CR
Habitat destruction and degradation through logging, conversion to agriculture, mining, and trapping for food and trade are the main threats.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Mindanao Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba crinigera), Mindoro Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba platenae), Negros Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba keayi) and Luzon Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba luzonica). All have been considered conspecific by some authorities.
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Possibly confusable with Tawitawi Brown-dove (Phapitreron cinereiceps) if seen poorly.
