Subspecies
May form a superspecies with Rufous-naped Lark (Mirafra africana), possibly also including Somali Lark (Mirafra somalica). Sometimes considered conspecific with Rufous-naped Lark (Mirafra africana), but the two are morphologically and vocally distinct, with no intermediate forms where their ranges meet in Kenya and northern Tanzania.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
gallarum Hartert, 1907 - Ethiopia (Rift Valley southern from Awash).
