Subspecies
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

ignotum Hume, 1877 - South-eastern Bhutan east to north-eastern India (Arunachal Pradesh) and adjacent northern Myanmar.
albiventre (Godwin-Austen, 1877) - North-eastern Indian hill states south of R Brahmaputra, also north-eastern Bangladesh and western Myanmar.
cinnamomeum (Rippon, 1900) - Eastern Myanmar, north-western Thailand, southern China (western and south-western Yunnan), north-western Laos and central and southern Vietnam (central and southern Annam).
pusillum (Delacour, 1927) - Southern China (south-eastern Yunnan east to south-western Guangxi) and northern Vietnam (northern Tonkin).
