Habitat
Highland grassland, heath, forest edge, gardens, cultivated areas. From 800 - 4,000 m.
Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Tanzania [United Republic of], Uganda.
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Voice
A slow, slurred 'chew chew chew'. A twittering, unmisical song.

Subspecies
Possibly forms a superspecies with Bocage's Sunbird (Nectarinia bocagii ) and Purple-breasted Sunbird (Nectarinia purpureiventris ).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
tacazze (Stanley, 1814) - Highlands of Eritrea and Ethiopia.
jacksoni Neumann, 1899 - Highlands of south-eastern Sudan, northern and eastern Uganda, west, central and southern Kenya and northern Tanzania.
